Inveraray Highland Games

On Tuesday 16th July, Inveraray held its annual Highland Games. The weather was sunny and there was a huge crowd of locals and visitors from all parts of the globe. There were food stalls and up market retail outlets next to the Games. We had a special interest as one our guests the previous night was Yvonne Macrae of Tartan Creations. Yvonne designs handmade tweed and tartan outfits.

Sue, Mabel and Boo, our daughter Islay (back from London for a week’s holiday) and I visited the Games. It was the first Highland Games for all of us and we thoroughly enjoyed the mixture of traditional athletics combined with the very Scottish pursuits of ‘tossing the caber’ and ‘throwing the stone’.

We visited the Tartan Creations outlet and they were extremely busy so the trip was well worth the drive down from Ross-shire for them.

Sue and I did our own bit of publicity for Powdermills Bed and Breakfast, me donning a Mabel’s Blog T-shirt with the web site on the back and Sue wearing a Powdermills T- shirt. The dogs enjoyed the day as well but Boo found the crowds disconcerting, especially the practising highland dancers!
