Bikers Paradise

Powdermills Bed and Breakfast near Inveraray is becoming busy as the summer approaches. And what we have noticed is that many of our guests are travelling by motor bike. Most are of a certain age, shall we say, not quite Marlon Brando, more ‘Hairy Bikers’.

They tend to have very powerful bikes, BMWs or Triumphs and have every gadget and gizmo known for luxury bike travel.

We certainly had not considered how important this market was for our Bed and Breakfast. However, after enjoying the company of these travellers it would appear that Scotland is a paradise for bikers. I did some research.

The Motorcycle Scotland website states the following:

Without doubt Scotland must rank amongst one of the very top motorcycle touring destinations in the world. It has everything. Great roads! Amazing scenery! Ever-changing geography!

They suggest 28 bike routes, yes 28! These trips are stunning drives through different parts of Scotland. The ‘Tartan Titan’ is the route recommended for Argyll and Bute.

Recently, we had a guest who biked from England who came through Glasgow to Loch Lomond and down to Inveraray. We suggested he return via the Claonaig ferry to Lochranza, Arran to enjoy a circuit of the Island and then to go back to the mainland via Brodick to Ardrossan and down south to England. It is a slower trip home for him but a memorable drive in sunny weather with magnificent views.

Not quite the Tartan Titan route but perhaps we have helped create the Powdermills B&B Titan route!
